HOMELESS SCHEME ON AWARD SHORT LIST
Coventry Evening Telegraph, 3 November 2006

A SCHEME run by the Jesus Centre in Coventry city centre has been short-listed for an award worth £5,000.

The Bridge Bond project helps homeless people find rented accommodation.

It is now considered so successful that it has reached the final five in the Spring Harvest Community Innovation Award, which attracted some 500 nominations.

Jesus Army member Ann Hawker has been invited to an awards ceremony at the House of Commons on Tuesday.

She said: "We set up the bond scheme in response to a big need in the city.

"The Bridge drop-in meets basic needs of hundreds of people, but many need a place to live if they are going to really get back on their feet.

"Since it started a year ago the scheme has housed 60 people, and most of them are still in tenancies."

There is a chance to learn more about the project during an Open Day at the centre next Friday from 2pm to 7pm.
