About London Jesus Centre
Lots of people still come to London expecting to find the streets are ‘paved with gold’, but many discover the opposite is true and hope gradually fades.
For the past eight years, The London Jesus Centre has been helping to restore hope and dignity again and (as our mission statement says), to express the love of Jesus daily in worship, friendship and help for every kind of person.
Worship happens here on a Sunday morning at 11am and Sunday evening at 6.30pm and volunteers meet each morning to pray together for the needs of the day.
Friendship is what makes our centre so special to people. Many comment on the peaceful atmosphere; old friends often return to say hello when their lives have got back on track.
Visitors find friendship and support in our Welcome drop-in, in our free English classes and conversation practice groups, in our inexpensive and friendly Word tea-room, in our weekly book club, in our lunch club for elderly people and in other social activities, such as curry afternoons.
We help those needing referrals for accommodation, medical advice, offer job-search help and support for learning English. Staff and volunteers are available to offer prayer and a listening ear and prayer is also available by appointment. For an English assessment, call the centre for an appointment on 0845 833 3005.
Our drop-in service, ‘Welcome,’ is aimed at improving the lives of homeless and vulnerably housed people in Westminster and Camden. This is done holistically, by meeting people’s material, social, spiritual and emotional needs. We provide free-of-charge shower and washing facilities, a laundry service (Wednesdays and Thursdays only), food, IT and phone facilities, clothing, luggage storage, befriending, information and more. If you need help with housing and employment issues, you can make an appointment with the drop-in supervisor.*
At Reception we can store post and valuable documents, do cheap printing and photocopying and give you access to the IT room.
There is an emphasis on providing a safe, welcoming and relational environment that empowers individuals to make real progress in their lives. So, why don’t you call in during our opening hours to meet people like Ben (in the video below) who can help you take the next step?
Open: Mon-Fri: 10am –3:30pm
*We do not provide accommodation. If you are homeless on the streets of London or worried about someone who is, please contact Street Link on 0300 5000914 or Shelter’s free national helpline on 0808 278 0720 (8am to 8pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 5pm weekends).
