Northampton Jesus Centre Property
The Jesus Centre features a large auditorium and two smaller function rooms available for hire for Christian worship and other events. The Centre also offers a community café, skills training and a step-up scheme for disadvantaged visitors. It aims to be able to offer anyone practical facilities, a listening ear and other help and advice.
Prior to renovation the Northampton cinema had stood empty since May 1995 and was in desperate need of extensive work. It has been "listed" by the government as an example of the 1930s "Art Deco" style. All changes were approved by English Heritage to ensure that the historic features were preserved. Part of the work included restoring the large entrance lobby's double staircase and balcony, which had been lost in a 1960s modernisation. The progress of the cinema conversion was featured on BBC television news.
