New life
Published: 17th Jul 2017THE motto of the Jesus Centres is “a place where everyone is valued”. At the Northampton Jesus Centre, they were recently able to show one of their friends how valued he is, and to introduce him to God.
Recently, a man who suffered from alcohol and homelessness problems, (and was a regular visitor at the Jesus Centre drop-in) attended church and felt God talking to him about faith.
This led him to make a decision to ask for help; within a short space of time he gave up drinking and started staying in the local night shelter. He also applied for a place at Emmaus House, (a community that supports homeless people) and was accepted. It’s great to see him move there and begin a new life.

A Bunch of Flowers

My colleague was recently bought a bunch of flowers by a visitor, who obviously felt nothing less would suffice to express the extent of his gratitude! Alistair has certainly benefited from all the Jesus Centre has to offer. He has attended a Basic IT course, a Customer Service course and gained an AIM qualification in volunteering, all in the last six months!
Last week he stayed back, long after others had gone home, to finish the pot wash, after a busy day in the Circle Café. Thanks Alistair!

She Beams, Now

TWO months ago, when Rosy first visited the Step-Up drop-in, she was depressed.
"Lower than I’ve ever been in my life", she explains. Her partner had suffered a mental breakdown and consequently their relationship had deteriorated. She began using hard drugs in an attempt to escape her despair.
At rock bottom, she decided to visit the Jesus Centre. On entry to the Step-Up she found somebody to talk to and pour out her grief to. She was reassured and comforted, offered food, drink and emotional support. Rosy returned many times and continued to find the help she needed. Power of Prayer
Published: 14th Jun 2017IT was Jeff's second time to our mid-week church event. We've been running these for four weeks at 12pm on Wednesdays.
On his first visit, he sat quietly, just listening to everything that went on. Today was different. The message, presented by William, our resident minister, seemed to touch base with Jeff in a real way. He began to speak.
In fact, he poured out his heart about the tragedy of his past and bitterness of his present. Holding back the tears, he admitted wanting to be free from the anger he feels inside. Some gave testimony to the healing power of Jesus and forgiveness. We prayed and later offered more direct prayer in relation to what he had shared. He accepted.

Fundraising and friends

LAST month, at the Northampton Jesus Centre we held a “Great Fish & chip quiz night”. It was a fundraising event for Sarah, one of our café volunteers who is going to India for three weeks at the end of February. She’s raising money to provide resources like pencils, rulers and exercise books for the orphanage her and a small team are going to support.
For the quiz night, there were five teams, including two from our Circle café customers. They pitted themselves against each other and while there was a clear winner, second and third places were decided through a series of nail-biting tie-break questions from our quiz master supremo Sid (the café manager).
