‘To love is to serve’ – students volunteer at London Jesus Centre
Students from St Dominique’s college in Harrow spend a day learning about the Jesus Centre’s workPublished: 3rd Oct 2014
“THIS place has made us realise that people do need help and that’s why places like this are here. They really help those in need.” Shireen is one of a group of sixth-form students who recently volunteered at the London Jesus Centre.
St. Dominique’s provides volunteering work for its students in the local community, with the opportunity to receive certificates based on their services. The students spent the day learning what day-to-day life is like at the Centre by supporting the Centre’s staff in their duties.
Alisha worked in the drop-in centre giving out food. The drop-in facility offers services for people in particular need, with provision for laundry, food, showers, etc.

London Jesus Centre Volunteer Appreciation Day
Jenny Priestley reports on London Jesus Centre’s appreciation day.Published: 8th Aug 2014
“WHOEVER refreshes others will be refreshed.” (Proverbs 11:25)
Last year at our Volunteer Appreciation Day, that meant the refreshing downpour of summer rain that soaked people, gazebo and burger buns alike.
This year’s event brought us refreshment of a different kind.
The sun beat down on the lovely, lakeside grounds of a house to the west of London where some generous friends of the London Jesus Centre live. People gathered in small groups: some in the shade, some around a three-seater garden swing and others around a huge bowl of icy punch with a decidedly Caribbean twist.
Before long we were battling away in pairs to win a Jesus Centre themed crossword competition while...

Acts today
Sam Hailes spent a day at London Jesus Centre. He described what he found there as “like the early Christians”.Published: 24th Jan 2011
"SOME things never change." Although such a phrase often has negative connotations, it can be good to have some stability in an otherwise changing world. Whether it's the taste of Coca-Cola or the cycle of the four seasons, we can all think of things that we enjoy just the way they are.
Most importantly, we know that God and His truth never change. But 2,000 years after Jesus began his worldwide movement, the Church, the world is a completely different place. Is it still possible to live like those early Christians did?
Tucked away behind Oxford Street, lives a community of Christians who are proving the answer to that question is a resounding "yes!"
As I arrived at the Jesus Centre one cold...

All rounder Roger is thrown in at the deep end
Roger Weeks gave up his own building business to become the Facilities Supervisor at London Jesus Centre.Published: 29th Sep 2008
EVERY day Roger commutes 1½ hours each way from his home in south-east London.
“The first person able to identify my job was a 12-year-old who said, ‘You’re going to be the caretaker then!’ Maintenance, servicing equipment, getting rooms equipped for groups, cleaning, security, health and safety, fire safety – if it’s not someone else’s job, it’s mine. Christ said He came to serve. If you want to lead, you’ve got to be able to serve with the love that comes from God.
“Right from when I left school, each job has been totally different and adds to my range of skills and abilities. Some people think I can do anything; I can’t. God’s still working...

The student and volunteer
From conversation classes to Christian discipleship.Published: 18th Sep 2008
JIN SHIL Um comes from Korea. She started conversation classes in the London Jesus Centre in May, the following month began volunteering herself in the Word tea room, and now she’s moved in to the Battlecentre community house to start a Jesus Army Training Year.
“I had never seen Christian people living together, sharing all things. It looks very beautiful and I think it is very close to Jesus’ way. Many Christian people say they want to follow Jesus, but not really in action. I think the community house is a very good base. It’s like a greenhouse – more concentrated – where I can grow up more as a Christian.
“In conversation class we learn lifestyle and common expression. Every...
