What if we knew them by name? A Community Feast.
Published: 25th Mar 2016
“THERE’S a line in every city that separates the rich from the poor, the strong from the weak, the haves from the have-nots. It’s a street, the train tracks, the river, a side walk. On one side there is safety, on the other there is danger. On one side there is security, on the other, fear. On one side, kids go to college, work pays well, needs are hidden behind curtains and consumable goods. On the other life is pretty raw. Serve the City is for everyone. It’s a revolution, a serving revolution. And it’s going to change the world. We know them by their needs. What if we knew them by name?” (The Serve the City manifesto)
It’s amazing what can come from a few people...

More guests, less loneliness
The 2015 Christmas dinnerPublished: 6th Jan 2016
WHILE designed to tug on the heartstrings of potential customers, last year’s John Lewis advertisement did highlight the loneliness that many people feel particularly keenly at Christmas. It focussed on the elderly, but homeless people, asylum seekers, refugees and those living far away from family particularly need to be remembered during the festive season.
While shoppers, a short distance from the London Jesus Centre, rushed around looking for last minute gifts and others started planning meals for family get togethers, another type of meal was being prepared for the 80 guests at the Jesus Centre Christmas dinner.

Silver Sunday
Published: 23rd Oct 2015
ACCORDING to a recent report, more than a third of people over 75 said they were lonely. In response to this, the ‘Silver Sunday’ initiative was launched in 2012, by The Sir Simon Milton Foundation and Councillor Christabel Flight. It’s an annual day that provides free activities across the UK for elderly people. The aim is to celebrate older residents and to help them get out and about and meet new people.
The first ‘Silver Sunday’ in 2012 was a fantastic success, with over 2000 people taking part in 19 events in Westminster alone. It gained the support of Joanna Lumley, Mayor of London Boris Johnson and Michael Parkinson. The following year then saw ‘Silver Sunday’ go national...

Time to Reflect
Jenny Priestley reflects on some of the highlights of 2014Published: 30th Jan 2015
As we launch into 2015 at the London Jesus Centre, it’s good to pause and be thankful for the many great things that happened here in 2014. We have successfully launched four new groups, a book club, an art class, IT class and a new English group which continue to do well, and we welcomed 199 new visitors in the last quarter of the year among the 5864 visits we had.
One visitor commented that coming to the Centre had changed his life eternally, and for another it had been the best thing that had happened all year.
Our Christmas parties are always a great way to close one year and celebrate the lives of the people who come through our doors. Christmas for many means rich food, fairy lights, fun,...
